What does Materials repair?

There have been questions by staff who are interested in learning if the Materials department continues to repair materials.  The answer is yes.  

Processing staff uses glue to repair broken spines of books.  However, this is limited to books that are sewn or cloth-bound.  Mass Market paperbacks or youth paperbacks can't be repaired in this way.

Processing staff can also replaced damaged cases for audiovisual materials, as well as the artwork for the cases.  The replacement of artwork is a time consuming repair, as it involves searching for artwork and resizing it to fit the case. This may result in a longer wait time for the material to return to the shelf.  

Processing staff can also replace lost barcodes and RFID tags, as well as torn Mylar.  

A book with pages falling out is beyond repair both in terms of capability and cost effectiveness.
