As you likely know, there is the possibility of ice and snow this weekend. For those of you working this weekend, please know that your HQ support team is on alert! Scot has been attending meetings at the Forsyth Emergency Operations Center and Facilities and IT staff have been proactively planning for this weather event.
As with any inclement weather event, we will monitor the situation to determine if and how library operations will be affected. Please make sure that your phone trees are up-to-date, that you bring critical work and laptops (if applicable) home with you today, and that your devices are charged.
The
Library has an Inclement Weather & Emergency Closings Policy (Section J-5
in the Personnel Policy Manual). Highlights include:
- Safety
is the priority.
Employees must make individual decisions about their ability to safely
travel. It is possible that most of the roads in the area are safe to
travel, but your neighborhood is impassable. We are making decisions
based on Forsyth County conditions, but you may live elsewhere. If you do feel you cannot safely get to or
from work, please notify your supervisor as soon as possible.
- The Library typically uses emergency call trees to communicate any changes in library opening/closing hours or in the times for employees to report to work.
- Although you should get specific information about your individual work schedule from your supervisor, you may also call the inclement weather hotline: 770-781-9840, ext. 9379. Please do not rely on notifications on the public website, as these are for the public and will not include information about staff schedules.
For Monday – Saturday closures, I would typically make the decision
prior to 6:30 AM. With this specific situation,
the most likely closure date is Sunday, when we have afternoon hours only. In this case it may be mid-morning before I
make the decision.
