Book Walk: Rosie's Walk

Our second Book Walk here at Sharon Forks is up and running and is proving to be a popular destination. Patrons are invited to stroll around Rosie’s farm as they read the book Rosie’s Walk by Pat Hutchins. If you’re not familiar, Rosie’s Walk is a fun and simple story about a hen who strolls around the farm while a fox, unbeknownst to Rosie, chases after her and finds himself in some funny predicaments along the way. Although the story is simple, there are some interesting concepts found in the book such as positional prepositions and simple machines, so we decided to build on those as themes throughout the walk. We’ve incorporated directional signs and pathways for our visitors as well as a simple machines scavenger hunt. There are some fun Early Literacy activities to do as well such as a fun counting rhyme, a sequencing activity, and a preposition dice game. Steph Gardner wielded her magic once again and created some amazing trees, a beautiful windmill and some gorgeous bee boxes (aka bee chateaus). The rest of the YS staff pitched in with decorating, painting and set up, and assisting in turning our previous winter day into an early spring one on the farm. Several of our young patrons eagerly awaited the new Book walk and were often seen peeking in the windows to see the progress as we switched things over. It’s been another fun program to be a part of and our guests are having a lot of fun exploring Rosie’s farm.
