Announcing Forsyth Reads Together Author for April 2023

Submitted by Kim Ottesen

The wait is over! I am excited to announce that the novel selected for the next Forsyth Reads Together event on April 18th at the Forsyth Conference Center is One Amazing Thing by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni.

Our patrons are going to enjoy this fascinating story about nine people who become trapped in the basement office of the Indian Consulate after an earthquake. All are there for different reasons, and each has their suspicions and prejudices. Now they need to work together to survive as they wait for help to arrive. One of the characters suggests they each tell “one amazing thing” about their lives to help pass the time and help fight despair. Through these fascinating stories, we learn the depth of each character. The novel has wide appeal and, at 227 pages, is a fast, engaging read.

Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni is an award-winning author and poet who writes about the South Asian experience. Her stories explore women, immigration, history, myth, magical realism and diversity. Her books have been made into films and plays. She teaches Creative Writing at the University of Houston. Her new book Independence will be published in January 2023, just in time to create more buzz about her and her writing.

Look for more information about this event in the coming months.
