Adventure Awaits at Post Road

Books open the door to adventure at Post Road this summer! Foam board, garbage bags, paint, and lots of creativity truly turned PR into a magical place for all.

The front windows are tiled with CSLP artwork, showing patrons how books lead to adventure. Once you enter the front doors, 25 paper lanterns covered in polyfill make a cloudy sky overhead. Foam board airplanes fly amongst the clouds. A passport photo station made of tiled passport stamps and the FCPL logo adds to the travel vibe. This area of the library used nearly 200 pieces of 11 x 17 paper for tiled décor.

Once inside, you are greeted with the arrivals and departures boards. These destinations are locations from books, and the "flight numbers" are the initials of the author and the last two digits of the year the book was published. The baggage claim (aka holds shelves) is covered with Summer Reading prizes and suitcases made out of cardboard boxes. Travel stickers made with printed images and covered in packing tape adorn the luggage. 

The youth side of the library is decorated to look like an outdoor adventure. The FCPL Adventure sign is a combination of painting and cut out letters. Rocks made out of spray window sealant complete the look. The waterfall behind the youth desk is sparkly fringe, a tablecloth, butcher paper, and foam insulation board. The youth endcaps have "wooden" signs made of foam board and wood patterned wall paper.

The teen room features fantasy décor, with a hand-painted hobbit door, foamboard dragon, and multimedia bulletin board. The adult stacks have various foamboard luggage toppers and tickets to various adventures. Seventy travel posters with book recommendations are posted around the library, featuring everywhere from Narnia to Italy. 

Decorating the branch for summer is a huge task, and it only happens with everyone's help. A few staff went above and beyond to make this happen, including Alison Carling, Melissa Reed, Jane Elizabeth Sewell, Scot Wells, and Steve Davis. Thank you all!
