Here are just a few unique upcoming programs to highlight for the week of June 24, 2024.

Write Together

When: Monday, June 24 at 6:30–8:30 p.m.

Where: Cumming Library 

What: Experiencing writer's block? Need fresh ideas and new friends? Drop in and join other authors to collaborate, discuss, and write in an environment like you might find in a café setting. There will be books available to help, as well as writing prompts and other activities. For adults only.

Survival Skills with Mark Warren

When: Tuesday, June 25 at 6:30–7:30 p.m.

Where: Hampton Park Library 

What: Noted local author and speaker Mark Warren will talk about essential survival skills needed in an outdoor emergency. Subjects addressed are: shelter, fire, wild foods, water sources and purification, insect repellents, itch and bite and sting remedies, plants medicines, hunting, and trapping. For grades 6 and up.

The Word Collector - Presented by Jerry G. White

When: Thursday, June 27 at 3:00 & 6:30 p.m.

Where: Cumming Library 

What: Storyteller and musician Jerry G. White will take us on an adventure based on the book The Word Collector by Peter H. Reynolds. All ages welcome! Event passes will be handed out 30 minutes prior to the event.

Introduction to Amateur (Ham) Radio - Adventure on the Air!

When: Thursday, June 27 at 7:00–8:00 p.m.

Where: Post Road Library

What: Members of the Sawnee Amateur Radio Association will be here to give an overview of ham radio. You will learn what it is, how it works, and what is involved in getting licensed, then listen in as they get on the air and see who they can connect with!

Birding with the Library

When: Saturday, June 29 at 9:30–11:00 a.m.

Where: Chattahoochee Pointe Park: 5790 Chattahoochee Pointe Dr, Suwanee, GA 30024

What: Sheridan Alford of Birds Georgia will lead a walk through Chattahoochee Pointe Park and show you how to identify local birds while learning about bird conservation and birding tips & tricks. All bird lovers are welcome! Please bring water and wear suitable footwear and clothing. In the case of inclement weather, the program will be moved inside to the Sharon Forks Library.

Bodies in the Bog - A Bog Talk

When: Sunday, June 30 at 2:00–3:00 p.m.

Where: Hampton Park Library 

What: Join soil specialist Amanda McPherson from the Forsyth County Soil Conservation to learn about what makes bogs so great at preserving bodies and view a terrarium with carnivorous bog plants! For adults.
