Ongoing Training Opportunities

I wanted to remind you about training that you can access through the FCPL website. If you want to learn any of the Microsoft Office products, you have several good options.

Universal Class offers courses in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Outlook, and Access. The classes are taught by video lessons and most can be taken for continuing education units or video audited. To receive credit for a course, you need to complete each lesson and every assignment. If you only want to learn certain skills, you can video audit most courses in Universal Class. When you video audit a course, you can watch whichever lessons interest you and skip the assignments and tests.

Hoonuit is another good option for courses on Microsoft Office software. Similar to Universal Class, the lessons are all taught via short videos. In Hoonuit, you can choose a course and simply watch the videos that teach the specific skills you want to learn. You do not need to watch all of the videos in a course if you already know how to do something. Most video lessons in Hoonuit are only two to three minutes long. You can choose from a variety of courses on Microsoft Word, Publisher, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook depending upon your interests and skill level.

Please note: Hoonuit also offers courses in Google Sheets, Forms, Docs, Slides, Drive, and more. The Hoonuit Google classes are more updated than the ones you can find in Universal Class.

Learning Express Library is still another great choice to learn Microsoft Office products. The Computer Skills Center includes a section called Popular Software Tools. You can take courses in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Access. Learning Express Library does not offer courses in Microsoft Publisher.

You can locate these eResources and more on the FCPL website under eLibrary -> eLearning or under eResources -> Education and Test Preparation. You will need to create a free account in Universal Class, Hoonuit, or Learning Express Library to take a course.

GPLS Learning Center on Niche Academy, which you can access through our website, now includes People Connect Institute (PCI) webinars. Some of you have watched PCI webinars over the last few months and recommended them. You can find many of the webinars free through the GPLS Learning Center listed under People Connect Institute.
