Cumming
Denise said all went well at Cumming, with 24 being the highest occupancy at one time. There were five or six folks using the computer who needed their time extended. Patrons seemed happy and everyone was excited to be back in the library. Tuesday was more challenging as patrons adjust to the new hours. There were several on the fly curbside pick-ups for those who did not realize we were closed.
Leslee shared that she got to browse Cumming’s collection on Monday and found some wonderful gardening books. She said the branch never felt congested and she was very pleased.
Post Road
Steve shared that all went smoothly at Post Road and they saw many very happy patrons. Staff was well prepared and no one seemed overwhelmed. As of midday, the highest occupancy at one time was 25. Later there were 35 at one time, but no patrons had to wait to enter.
Sharon Forks
All went smoothly at Sharon Forks as well. Patrons were excited to pick up their items. About 85% wore masks and were in and out quickly. As of 1:30 p.m. highest patron count was 30, which was very manageable for the size of the building.
Hampton Park
Nikki helped out at Hampton Park and enjoyed hearing all the comments from the patrons about how excited they were to be back in the building. The highest patron count for the day was 20.
Is Materials getting lots of requests?
Yes. There has been an increase in requests for older titles, which may be because there has not been ILL access. Materials is done ordering physical materials for the year, but are tracking the requests and building carts for FY2021.
Are we still ordering eBooks?
Yes, and we will continue to do so until June 30. Once we receive the last shipment of books, we will place an order for eBooks with any remaining funds in the Materials budget. While we often have savings in other budgets, we always want to spend the entire Materials budget so our patrons can have access to as many resources as we can give them.
This year there have been lots of publication date changes, so more orders have been cancelled, leaving more money to be diverted to eBooks, which we know patrons will devour. The selectors are monitoring those pub date changes and will order the materials when they become available.
How are things going with training?
Trina has been busy training two new IS staff members remotely and in the training lab. With the opening this week, they were able to train in the branches.
Elise shared that Support Services is recruiting for several positions and is working hard to get all branches and departments fully staffed.
How is Summer Reading Fun going?
Tracy posted a wonderful update on our SRF participation earlier in the week. Programs are moving along full steam ahead for both in-house and paid programs.
What has Outreach been doing?
Lorraine has contacted all of the daycares we currently have relationships with to see if they would like Summer Reading Fun resources. She has gotten many positive responses and is busy delivering reading logs, bookmarks, and stickers to the facilities. The daycares are also thrilled with the many virtual programs we are offering and are sharing them with their charges and their families.
The Place of Forsyth started a summer food program for students and is offering food pick-up in 4 locations that have been identified as in need. Outreach will deliver 200 books, stickers and bookmarks to The Place this week to be handed out with the food.
How do we think curbside service will be affected now that the library is open?
One day’s worth of data is not enough to draw a conclusion and we will continue as long as the demand is high. Several staff members shared the positive comments from patrons who are not comfortable coming into the branch and will continue with curbside only. The hope is that our numbers will eventually go down enough that we can manage to be open and offer curbside service simultaneously.
Being open on Monday didn’t dampen our patrons’ enthusiasm for using Curbside Pickup. Yesterday we served 440 patrons, which is our highest one-day total for curbside service. Our only other days over 400 were last Monday and Tuesday. 2,653 items were checked out to patrons yesterday, which was our second-highest one-day total (last Monday 2,660 items were checked out).
