Delays in Receiving New Print Materials

Submitted by Jeff Fisher

We are seeing increasing delays in receiving new print materials from the time that they are ordered.  This may mean that new titles, including titles by popular authors, may not be available for checkout until after their official release date.  These delays may only be a few days, or in some cases may be a week beyond the release date.

What are the reasons for these delays?

Library book vendors receiving less supply from the publishers.

Publishers encountering delays in getting items published due to supply delays because of COVID.

Delays in processing materials due to personnel shortages at library book vendor facilities.

What are possible options for patrons?

Patrons who are interested in possibly checking out the eBook or eAudiobook version of a popular title may wish to do so in OverDrive/LIBBY.

Large Print and CD Book formats of popular titles may be available before the print version.
