Cold and Flu Season (and COVID-19)

Submitted by Aimee Brown

It’s that time of year again – the leaves are falling and it seems that everything comes in “pumpkin spice” flavor.  And while many of us enjoy the cooler temperatures, it also means that cold and flu season are right around the corner!

Last week, FCPL was pleased to offer a flu vaccine clinic for staff.  We had a 22% turnout of staff - thank you to all that participated!  The CDC reports that the best way to reduce your risk from the seasonal flu is to get vaccinated every year.  We want to encourage those that weren’t able to attend to talk with their doctor and consider getting their flu (and COVID) vaccines to help stop the spread of these contagious conditions.

In addition to cold & flu season, we’re still in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.  It’s been several weeks since our last known positive case.  We want to THANK YOU, our amazing staff and volunteers, for continuing to take all recommended precautions to prevent the spread of illness by washing your hands often, wearing masks, social distancing, and staying home if you’re ill.  We continue to encourage our vaccinated and unvaccinated staff and volunteers to remain vigilant in monitoring themselves for symptoms of COVID-19, the flu, and any other contagious illness.

As a reminder, if you’ve had a recent exposure to someone who is sick (even if you’re vaccinated) or if you develop contagious type symptoms, stay home and contact your medical provider, your supervisor, and HR for advice before reporting to work.

Let’s finish strong this season.  Stay well, read a good book, and enjoy your favorite pumpkin spice treat!
