Communications Manager

      Submitted by Stephen Kight

Today there will be a posting for a new position for FCPL, Communications Manager. This position will oversee library communications to Forsyth County Public Library patrons and the Forsyth County community. It will promote the library’s resources, services, and programs in order to ensure maximum awareness, understanding, and utilization of the library by the community.

Previously the Programming Manager oversaw promotions and supervised the 30-hour Promotions Specialist, along with the 25-hour Programming Administrative Assistant. With the recent vacancies of these two part-time positions, we combined them to form the Communications Manager position.

The Communications Manager will report to the Deputy Director, with the Programming Manager no longer responsible for promotions and able to focus entirely on the coordination of library programs. The Communications Manager will focus on both the big picture and the many details involved in library communications, including creating and maintaining a communications plan and overseeing and performing all external and internal marketing and communications activities. This position will research, create, and edit original content on a wide range of library activities for all delivery modes including digital, print, news releases, presentations, exhibits, event materials, newsletters, and advertising. They will oversee the library’s presence on social media, develop and maintain consistent branding for FCPL, and will utilize all available resources to promote the library’s reputation and positive image in the community.

There is a great deal of work involved in communicating all that the library does. While the Communications Manager will perform much of that work, they will also delegate some promotions tasks for programs and services to branch staff, coordinating with Public Services supervisors.

This position will be part of Leadership Team, and will work with department heads and managers to ensure that information is shared with patrons and/or staff as warranted.

We are confident that this position will help the library move forward in its important goal of expanding awareness to both current and future library users.
