Programming Picks: Engagement Programs

From virtual to in-person and everything in between, there are a lot of exciting programs happening at FCPL this summer! Check the blog this summer for weekly programming picks!

Program picks for the week of June 21: Engagement Programs

What’s an engagement program? Also known as a passive program, an engagement program is one that patrons participate in on their own time with little staff assistance. They are usually ongoing, taking place for several days to several months. They can be both virtual and in person and can even take the form of interactive displays. This past year, engagement programs have been a great way to make library visits special for patrons of all ages while we have not been able to host in-person programs.

Cumming
Even with the roof project, Cumming staff have a lot of exciting things happening in the branch. For kids, there is a scavenger hunt, an animal trading card activity, and an indoor story stroll throughout the children’s area. For adults, there is a craft table where adults or families can make macramé mermaid tails.

Hampton Park
Hampton has resumed many in person programs, but is also offering educational and entertaining engagement programs for youth. In the kids area you’ll find a scavenger hunt that will be changing monthly. For littler ones, staff have put out learning activities like puppets, puzzles, and more in the Library Learning Station.

Post Road
Summer fun has arrived at the Post Road Library and there is something for everyone! They have Tails and Tales themed scavenger hunts for kids and adults. In the kids’ area, you’ll find the iSpy Cabinet of Curiosities and the Play ‘n Learn activity center which highlights different educational and literacy activities which change weekly. The fun continues outside in the Poetry Garden where families can learn about bugs.

Sharon Forks
Sharon Forks is featuring a variety of rotating engagement activities for youth including animal themed scavenger hunts, passive crafts, and the Book Walk which is open through July 3. There’s more fun on the adult side for grownups including a giant crossword puzzle, pin the “tale” on the book, and more.

Sharon Forks staff have also created a virtual passive program, Animal Exploration Station, where kids can learn about different biomes through a variety of virtual activities. Animal Exploration Station updates weekly.
