Friends & Advocates Volunteer Picnic

The Friends & Advocates held a volunteer picnic lunch today at Poole’s Mill Park, attended by 27 Friends volunteers and 7 library staff.  It was a real treat for everyone to get together after such a long year of limited contact, and we couldn’t have had better weather for a picnic.  The food by Socks’ Love Barbecue was delicious and the company was even better.  Friends & Advocates President Jodie Barger expressed her thanks to the Friends volunteers, managers, and board, and I expressed thanks on behalf of the library staff.  Jodie and I both talked about the Friends volunteers’ contributions going beyond building financial support for the library; their friendly conversations in the bookstores with library patrons help to build and maintain a strong sense of community that is so important.

After lunch we played fun book-related trivia (only mildly competitive!) and the volunteers gathered for a group photo in front of Poole’s Mill Covered Bridge, which is a great place to visit if you haven’t seen it in person.
