"Gourd-eous" story stroll opens at Warbington Farms by Paula Glover

Warbington Farms opened for the fall season last weekend and FCPL was invited to create a story stroll for families to enjoy. This is the third year we've been invited to participate and the Programming and Outreach teams worked together on the retelling of a slightly fractured version of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves, complete with hand-crafted scarecrows and props to bring the story to life.

Tracy Walker and Paula Glover wrote the story, Gourdenia and the Seven Gourds, and Angela Bearden created original illustrations.

Sarah Reynolds, Lorraine Lane, and Joanie Goforth searched thrift stores and supply bins to assemble costumes for each scarecrow character.  Joanie even created a fake pumpkin pie to be served by the scheming Queen Luffa!

Angela painted the face of each scarecrow character and her spouse, Brent, created a miniature greenhouse for the sleeping Princess Gourdenia.

The story stroll also includes information about 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten and the five early literacy practices (reading, writing, talking, singing, and playing).

If you'd like to see the story stroll in person, visit Warbington Farms at 5555 Crow Road, Cumming, GA 30041. The farm is open on Fridays and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. and Sundays from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Admission is $13 plus tax for ages 3 and up and includes hay ride, corn maze, fun park, and petting zoo.
