Video files and your profile

A few staff members have had problems with large profiles lately, especially since video files have become a part of our workflow.

If you have a roaming profile, it is essential that you do not allow large files like video files to end up on your profile. Large files on your profile will dramatically slow down the time it takes for you to log in to computers. Make sure that you are saving video files and projects to your Z drive or to a shared location like the video shares that were created for branch staff today.

Common locations where large files end up are the Downloads, Pictures, and Documents folder. Do not assume that these locations are automatically mapped to your Z drive, because they often are not. When you are saving a file, you can type Z: into the address bar of the file window to go to your Z drive. You can also do this in Windows File Explorer when you are looking for files.

If you have large files on your profile, video or otherwise, please make sure to move these to your Z drive and to delete them from your profile. If you need assistance doing this, please notify IT. Often, in extreme cases, IT will have to delete the copy of your profile from the other computers that you use at your branch to ensure that the large files do not become part of your profile again.

If you have any questions, please let IT know. Thank you for your help during this time when many staff members are making their first foray into the world of video recording and editing.
