Q & A Tuesday, September 8, 2020

Tuesday’s session was relatively low-key, with few questions and several short updates.

Salary Study

Many thanks to everyone who participated in the salary study. We have no completed data yet, but the consultant is reaching out to other government entities and libraries for comparison. It could take several months to compile everything. In our original budget request, we asked the County for funds to implement the salary study recommendations, but in light of many competing priorities as a result of the COVID pandemic that request did not move forward in the approval process for the Calendar Year 2021 budget. It is still valuable information that can be referenced for future budget cycles.

Mask Requirement

From all reports, the mask requirement appears to be going smoothly, with a few exceptions. Post Road reported that they have seen more of a reaction to the food and drink restrictions than mask objections. Cumming shared that things have been going well there, with only a few who chose not to come in due to the mask requirement.

Staffing

Somebody knock on wood, because we have the most positions filled/fewest number of openings in two years! Elise, Steve, and Nikki have screened countless applicants, scheduled numerous skills tests, and conducted interviews necessary to make this happen. There is currently one Information Specialist position open and a panel interview being scheduled. The job description for the part-time facilities position is currently under review. There is also a current CSA posting.

Thank You Thursday

This initiative has been a huge hit. Thank you, Paula, for your excellent work on the project.

Miscellaneous

  • Virtual Staff Day is on Thursday, October 15 from 9:00-11:00 a.m.
  • Elise is gathering all the information from the flu shot survey and will share dates and locations soon. FCPL will cover the cost of the shots for staff who do not have insurance benefits.
  • Outreach is getting back in the community, offering a new laundromat initiative. Stay tuned for a more in-depth update and photos.
