Webinars Recommended by Your Co-Workers

The staff member who suggested this webinar said, “It was wonderful to see how we can be including Social Emotional Learning in our storytime programs just by being intentional about it and asking a few new questions. Dr. Nancy Boyles provided some wonderful resources! I think this was the best webinar I have taken during these past few weeks.”

Responding to an Active Shooter in the Library from Library 2.0 and Dr. Steve Albrecht was recommended by several staff members.

One staff member said, “The main points that I took away from the webinar would be that if possible, security guards may be an essential expense of libraries today. Libraries should be stocked with First Aid Kits and staff/supervisors, in Albrecht's recommendations, should be trained in "Stop the Bleed" or tourniquet use. At this time, all law enforcement teaches the "Run, Hide, Fight" strategy to library and school employees. We should all know how, if a perpetrator were to come into the library, how we would call 9-1-1 in a hurry. It is a good idea to create a "hangout" environment for our county officers. Invite them to come in and use our staff restrooms whenever they need to. This way, they do not have to worry about using a public bathroom with all of their gear and having a police presence in the library at unpredictable times could help keep perpetrators away.”

The Give and Take of Criticism from Florida Library Webinars was suggested by another staff member who said that it could be helpful to everyone. Some of the topics discussed include building respect and trust, constructive criticism, accepting feedback, and giving feedback. There was a lot of useful information in the webinar.

  1. The Gallaudet courses are really well organized. I highly recommend them to anyone who wants to try learning some ASL to communicate with our Deaf patrons.
